About the Foundation

The Flynn Michael Foundation was established to prevent the loss of young lives and protect families from the tragedy of reckless teen driving. Our mission is to transform grief into action through education, legislative reform, and increased accountability.

Founder's Message

On November 17, 2023, our lives changed forever when we lost our beloved son, Flynn Michael MacKrell, to a preventable tragedy. Flynn was just 18 years old—a bright, kind, and promising young man with Flynn's whole life ahead of him.

Flynn's death was not an accident. It was the result of extreme reckless driving by another teen driver who had a documented history of dangerous behavior. Despite multiple warnings, traffic violations, and clear evidence of risk, no meaningful intervention occurred. The legal system failed to hold anyone accountable, and a family enabled behavior that ultimately took our son's life.

In the aftermath of this devastating loss, we discovered that Michigan law—and laws in many other states—contain dangerous gaps that allow extreme reckless driving to go unpunished and parents who enable such behavior to face no consequences. We realized that if we didn't act, other families would experience the same preventable tragedy.

The Flynn Michael Foundation was created to honor Flynn's memory by protecting other families. We are working to close legal loopholes, strengthen accountability, and provide education that prevents reckless teen driving tragedies before they happen.

Flynn's death was NOT an accident. It was a foreseeable preventable violence.
